America’s Next Top Model (Winner 2006)

Caridee English (Photographer and Model)

Then there’s Caridee, who says that three months ago, she had — wait for it — psoriasis that covered 78% of her body. The horrors! Caridee has just a little bit left on her knee. She starts to cry and says that it was a very emotional thing for her. She always wanted to model, but always got turned down. She says that, her whole life, she just wanted to wake up and put on a pair of shorts and go outside, like so many people do and take for granted. And now, finally, she is able to achieve that goal. You guys, while we’ve been worrying about AIDS and cancer and the bird flu, and doing 10K runs and buying things with pink ribbons on them and whatnot, someone has apparently gone and found a cure for psoriasis. Well I’ll be. Tyra notes that Caridee is a photographer, and asks, “Were you behind the camera because you were suffering with the psoriasis, but dying to be on the other side?” Caridee says that that is true

Tyra Banks is back with Cycle 7 of her hit series America’s Next Top Model. Along with Tyra, Miss J. Alexander, Twiggy, Nigel Barker, and Jay Manuel return as judges. It is obvious they have been together far too long by watching their antics during judging ceremonies. Sometimes funny, it is mostly just over the top and nutty. The series airs on the new CW network Wednesdays at 8/7c.

“The Girl Who Grates”
Cycle 7, Episode 12
The competition is now down to the final four: Amanda, Melrose, Eugena, and Caridee. After last week’s elimination of Michelle, Amanda wants to win because she feels Michelle sacrificed herself to help Amanda. Still in Spain, the girls learn the art of Flamenco dancing for their challenge. Amanda has problems with her feet, and is just plain awkward. The other girls all seem to get the hang of it more easily. A surprise dinner date brings Miss J. Alexander to the girls. Here, they discuss how each girl actually found the desire to compete on Top Model. Melrose sucks up as usual. Her confidence has gotten way past the point of cocky. While all the other girls are practicing the flamenco dance for the competition, Melrose says “I am 100% confident I am going to shine.”

Caridee and Eugena have become close friends on the show. They confess to each other they want to be in the top two together. Believe me girls, you aren’t the only ones! No one in the house likes Melrose. She is incredibly fake in everything she does. The day of the dance competition, Caridee shows she can produce good chemistry with her partner and Eugena has elegant body movements. Both Amanda and Melrose struggle. Finally Melrose messes up and we see her break down. I’ve been waiting weeks for her to crack!! When Eugena wins the challenge and picks Amanda to share the prize, Melrose begins to cry saying she tries so hard and is mad at herself. This girl has some serious issues. Who is she?? Who is the real Melrose?? I don’t know if I want her to stick around to find out. Amanda wins a jacket and Eugena wins a jacket and shirt as their prize. Good for them.

The photoshoot tests the girls’ endurance. Tyra comes to act as a guide on the shoot and to see the girls in action. Melrose and Eugena work together and Caridee and Amanda are partners. They must float on their backs in a pool accentuating their long hair extensions. Eugena struggles to keep afloat in the ice cold water, but Melrose appears at ease. Tyra has obviously been practicing her Spanish skills as she whips out phrases here and there. You gotta love it. When Amanda and Caridee enter the water, everything seems fine until Caridee gets too cold and starts convulsing. She is forced to leave the pool due to hypothermia. Amanda continues the shoot alone like a true competitor. I’ll give her credit, this girl is working and trying harder than anyone, but she is so painfully awkward outside of a photo.

At judging, Tyra shows the girls their photos from the flamenco dance competition. Amanda’s picture reveals her left foot is twisted backwards!! She is just the epitome of awkward. Tyra and Miss J. feel the music and begin to show the girls how to dance. When Tyra’s shoe falls off, she continues to dance, and the camera zooms in on a close-up of the lost shoe. We get it: Tyra can’t do wrong. Caridee and Amanda land in the bottom two. Amanda is eliminated due to her awkwardness. See ya! Now the real competition can start! Eugena, Melrose, or Caridee..who will win? If it is Melrose. I might be joining Caridee with a barf bag.

Who’s Gonna Be On Top?
The Models
A.J. Stewart

Twenty year old student from Sacramento, California. A.J., a cervical cancer survivor, showed much potential each week. Sadly, it was her laid back, carefee attitude that gave the judges the impression she did not want to be there. Her dismissal was shocking as she had been coming in first in the judges eyes weeks before.

Amanda Babin

Eighteen year old Bookstore SalesAssociate from Anaheim, California. Amanda really struggles with coming out of her shell and often uses her twin sister, Michelle, as a clutch. If she is going to make it to the top she is going to have to get over her insecurities.

Anchal Joseph

Nineteen year old Sales Clerk from Homestead, Florida. Anchal, of Indian decent, has struggled with her self esteem her entire life. From wearing blue contact to complaining about her weight, this girl has some serious issues. Instead of hearing her complaining and easedropping on people talking about her, how about hitting the gym?

Brooke Miller

Eighteen year old high school student from Keller, Texas. Fun-spririted Brooke, looked like a front runner, but sadly, her inexperience is what gave her the boot. Maybe she did have a little too much pep, but she deserved a couple more weeks at least. Who doesn’t want to hear another one of her raps?

CariDee English

Twenty-one year old Photographer from Fargo, North Dakota. CariDee improves each week and it looks like she’s heading to the top. Not only are her pictures gorgeous, but she is incredibly likeable and drama-free.

Christian Evans

Ninteen year old Bank Teller from Columbia, South Carolina. This Tyra wannabe should not have even been picked for the Top 12. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery Tyra should be, um, flattered? Thankfully she was the first to leave the house.

Eugena Washington

Twenty-one year old Costumer Service Representative from Palmdale, California. Eugena has as much personality as a wet rag. After telling Tyra in the initial inteviews that the girls from last season were boring, she has some serious catching up to do. She is barely hanging in the competition with a couple good pictures.

Jaeda Young

Eighteen year old student from Perkersburg, Iowa. Jaeda, Miss “I used to be a beauty queen” has got to quit complaining about her hair! Her short hair has really effected her mentality and performance in the shoots. It’s pretty amazing she is still around.

Megan Morris

Twenty-three year old Bartender from San Fransisco, California. Megan’s sweet and friendly personality made her a sympathetic favorite. After hearing her tragic story about losing her mother in a plane crash and using her body warmth to keep her alive, it was hard to see her go.

Megg Morales

Eighteen year old Retail Clerk from Los Angeles, California. Megg, the rock chick describing herself as dark and intense, probably took the worst pictures of the bunch. Her vivacious personality kept her around but there is only so much “ROCK ON!!!” one can take.

Melrose Bickerstaff

Twenty-three year old Fashion Designer from San Fransisco, California. Melissa Rose aka Melrose, another top runner, is a favorite of the judges, but not the girls of the house. Her diva persona does not create any friends in the house. Yet, she keeps winning challenges and nailing her shoots, so there must be something promising about her.

Michelle Babin

Eighteen year old student from Anaheim, California. Michelle, Amanda’s twin sister, is a free spirited tomboy and a lot more likeable than her other half. Her bisexual revelation is a favorite story line for producers who are constantly emphasizing it. Her pictures are good, but in person she just does not look like a model.

Monique Calhoun

Nineteen year old Marketing Representative from Chicago, Illinois. Monique was the most hated person in the house, with good reason. She took her wannabe-diva personality too far with encouragement from her mother. How could anyone can stand to be around this girl?
